me and todd are going to climb mount yushan in late March until early April 2010. Both of us have never been to taiwan before but luckily todd has a friend who works for Malaysia embassy in Taipei.

hi,

i have just successfully restored this blog tonight. Fuhhhhhh. The version of the currently installed WP is different from the one that i have used before. Thank god i have spotted one missing database column in wp_posts table. And yeah, now i’m with all the contents that i have written before, smiling, and cant wait to write further

ok, for 2010, here is my travel schedule:

saudi arabia – may or june
annapurna circuit – october or november 2010

back from rinjani with love

will try to find time to write something on our journey.

ok, this is one pending writing that i have not finish for months. i’ve been involved in 4 months contract work that requires ridiculously high concentration as i had to learn 2 new programming languages + delivering another project late last year.

mount rinjani, lombok, indonesia

we went to rinjani in late june. My entourage consisted of 8 extraordinaire comrades from KL and Kuantan. Me, arey, emran mt, abah, pahat, doc jamal, doc ali and not to forget mr nizam. Supposedly mr jasni from muor should have joined us in this photo adventure travel but he withdrew at the eleventh hour due to some immediate ‘job’ offer he managed to clinched just before the journey.

so basically, in short, the travel itenaries were like these:

gathered @ klia. tuesday
flown to bali via airasia
took fokker to lombok
arey’s friend waited at selaparang airport and we hopped in a van to go to senaru
overnight @ senaru village
the next day, we climbed to post IV and camped there. wednesday
woke up at 3 and ascended some 2-300 meters to reach the crater of rinjani.
descended at 8/9. lunch @ 11 am/12 noon. 12.30 descended and reached senaru village like 5 pm. thursday
the friend took us back to mataram. overnight at mataram.
the next day, went to kuta beach, and senggigi. had a beautiful sunset there. aha…i remembered that this day was friday because this is the first time that i had jumaat prayer in indonesia.

trimen and forend picked us up at padang bay. we did not manage to get a hotel at kuta. i’m not sure where it was…trying to cope with my not so stellar memory management…heheh

the 2nd last post before rinjani 2009

emm…as usual, i have the habit of writing “the 2nd last post” before writing the “the last post” article prior to any travel adventure. hehehehe. but i think, its ok, since its kinda like a list of things that i have to take into account before travelling.

Issues

we actually have a big issue at hand. rinjani becomes active since may 2009. This is not welcomed at all. i think they have raised the alert level to level III. basically, at this warning level, you have to stay away from the center of eruption at a radius of 2-3 km. this means that we cannot camp at plawangan sembalun. we can go up to plawangan but have to go down as soon as possible. this makes all planning go hairwire.

change of plan

so…we have to change our plan. we have few choices. 1st choice is to climb up to the 3rd post, camp there, and go up at the wee hour of the next morning and try to catch the sunrise at plawangan. after that, we descend to post 3 or maybe we can go out straight to sembalun lawang. if we choose this option, we are going to take 2-3 days in rinjani alone.

2nd choice is like the 1st one but originate from senaru. its gonna be hell of a journey since it is longer. just imagine, the last time that i went to rinjani, we took like a day to trek down from segara anak to senaru. And the best part was… we were running. cant u imagine if we were not to run and…we trek up from senaru. Its going to take, not twice but thrice the amount of time to get to senaru plawangan. we have to camp somewhere. So the plan will be 2 days of trekking up and 2 days of going out to senaru. this will taxed up the time in bali. basically, we will not have time in bali. maybe 1/2 to 1 day only.

3rd choice is to scrap rinjani. proceed with plan C: bali touring…emm emmm…so hard to resist

GR – General Reminder

I have to get the following things done before the trip:

repair shoes, trekking trousers, repair flash?
charge slr batteries
settle pending jobs….arrghhh. actually i have 2 pending jobs… :-p
locate my sleeping bag
what else…emm…will write them when i do remember.

ok…today is nine days before the trip. hopefully everything will go well.
